    < BACK TO RESTORATION 6V to 12V Conversion Modification This conversion use the larger 107mm diameter mid-70's and up BMW Airhead Bosch stator and rotor. ​ Details: The Bosch charging components can be used from any Airhead which has the 107mm diameter stator. The seal feature of the rotor is removed by turning in a lathe. The stator is modified so that the earthed brush is converted to an insulated (unearthed) design. (Reference the two pics from below) The front engine cover is modified to accept a stainless steel adapter ring and stator. Three M5 tapped holes are made on the cover. Depending on the cover used, one or two TIG weld bosses are added to the cover to allow the ability to tap all three M5 tapped holes. The rear housing section of a Delco Remy 10si alternator is modified. It is mounted to the main frame. (Reference the pic from below) The stock wiring harness is modified from its point on the frame to where the generator system previously was located. Advantages of this system: It is a robust, efficient and high quality conversion. Higher wattage output, 280W vs 200W, than other systems. All components are always readily available. Excellent low RPM (<2000) charging capability. All solidstate regulating componentry. ​ Services currently provided for this 12V conversion: Front engine cover modifications.     < BACK TO RESTORATION Exhaust Thread Repair A high quality repair is processed by: The thread area is degreased and media blasted. Dependent on the extent of the damage, the usual next step is removal of the damaged threads. The damaged thread area is then built up via the TIG weld process. The threads are then machined on a lathe. This repair can be processed on the following airhead exhaust threads: 1955-69 R50/R6/2 models. 1955-69 R69/R69S models. 1955-67 R26 & R27 models. 1970-84 Airheads (except R65) Others on a select basis.     < BACK TO MISCELLANEOUS Tibor's Gläser Fairing In the late 80's, another person and myself went in on the purchase of an R69S. The motorcycle was owned by a USPS postal carrier in the Akron/Canton, Ohio area. The 'S' had period accessories such as the Gläser fairing shown in the pics below, complete Craven pannier set, tank bag and VDO tachometer. The other person was selling the bike to someone in Wyoming, without the period accessories. In the splitting of the accessories, some of them going my way were the Gläser fairing and Craven pannier set. The Gläser was stored at my cousin's paint and body shop tethered to the ceiling until '89. It was then mounted on the R60US in the pic below. In '91 on my journey home from downtown Cleveland OH, while sitting on the NOMBL #75, Tibor gets on the bus at one of the #75 route bus stops. I asked him about the Gläser and if he knew it's history. Sure enough, it was the exact fairing mounted on his '68 NY->LA run R69S. Several months later, when out on ride, I met up with him in Fairview Park, OH. He wanted to buy the Gläser. It was NFS (Not For Sale). Yes, I still have the fairing. ​ ​ 1/1
